It’s hard to write in the summer, when it’s hot and there’s no A/C, when the kids are home and they need attention. NOW. My writing has suffered immensely these past couple weeks. There’s been little time and when I do manage to write something, it’s a complete mess.
Okay. Enough of the whining.
Thank goodness for Jeannine Atkins and her wonderful post telling us to “Keep Going.” It’s almost as if she wrote her post with me in mind. It’s just what the doctor ordered and I will take it to heart.
So today, I will continue revising PB and know that every move I make with my manuscript brings it closer to being done.
What will you do?
Write-a-Scene Writing Prompt: There are times when your MC is discouraged, having little faith or belief that she can move forward. But someone or something will help her and remind her to stay the course.
Expect a struggle. What does your MC want? What is your MC afraid of? Does your MC have a hard time believing the Message of Perseverance or even think the Message is for someone else? Bring forth emotion and conflict. There are no simple solutions here and your reader doesn’t expect it.
Make your words count!
Just managed to get a scene out. For some reason, I’m writing really short ones these days–have no idea if that structure will last through revision, but it’s a happy place for now–I like the pacing, and it makes for a LOT more frequent milestones. 🙂
Let yourself enjoy being with your story, even if it’s only in snatched pieces of time!
Yay for your scene, Becky! And THANK YOU for your words of wisdom.
Oh, summertime! I’m trying to write early in the morning and in small bits of time throughout the day… it’s tricky though, even with older kids. Thanks for the inspiring post. (Love the new blog.) 🙂
Thanks, Jennifer! It is challenging managing work in the summer, isn’t it? Good luck!
