I dug up this post and thought I’d share it again…hope you take the time to watch this brilliant video.
Thanks to Robin Brande for finding these words of wisdom.
Sir Ken Robinson is funny, engaging and wise. Take the time to listen to him. It’s worth your time, and even better, it may very well get your creativity gears back to work.
Here’s to a great writing day!

when i discovered these some time back, and shared them with some writer friends who were also educators, they were stunned and offended. the very notion that they were active participants in killing creativity in children caused them to embrace a defensive posture.
it is partly why i abandoned teaching in public schools myself. the very structure of the educational system makes it so a teacher must fight to both educate and excite children and i wasn’t strong enough to keep fighting the system (seriously, it stressed me out to the point of getting pneumonia).
and, yes, my girls are in public school, and socialized to the point where they would resent being pulled from it. but i would support them fully if they wanted to pursue an alternate path.
